“In my world, things arrive in imperfection. Raw emotion makes them real. Perfection turns unattainable and cold in my hands. My creatures, my colour, my contrast exist to show the beauty of how things feel beneath what they appear to be.”

Jessy Anzola is a Venezuelan contemporary artist whose work explores the fragile border between the identities we perform and the emotions we conceal.

Her paintings confront the illusion of perfection by placing luminous colour against distortion, beauty against fracture, and social masks against the raw emotional states beneath them.

SERIES 2026

PERMISSION TO DISTORT

Permission to Distort is an ongoing series that explores the tension between internal experience and external expectation. Each piece centers on a specific psychological moment — a silent negotiation between what is felt and what is socially permitted.

Distortion functions as an act of honesty. Fragmented figures, layered surfaces, and bold color contrasts reveal the complexity of inner dialogue without attempting to resolve it.

The series invites viewers to engage in a personal process of recognition — to confront contradiction, vulnerability, and emotional immediacy without judgment.

I paint the tension between what we show and what we are."
-Jessy Anzola

Her work moves beyond traditional beauty and academic realism, focusing instead on emotional tension, symbolic language, and psychological depth.

Her paintings have been acquired by private collectors, including recognized DJs and actors who resonate with the intensity of her visual language. Her work is currently held in collections across India, the United States, Mexico, Venezuela, and Spain.

Working intuitively rather than from rigid plans, each piece develops through layered gestures and immediacy.

“I’m interested in that space between identity and exposure — what we present to the world versus what’s actually happening internally. The distortion is intentional. It’s not about realism; it’s about emotional accuracy.”
